East Ayton Lodge began life in the early 1800s as a grand country manor house, nestled in the peaceful village of East Ayton, North Yorkshire. In 1928, Lady Marjorie Nunburnholme — granddaughter of the first Duke of Wellington — made the Lodge her family home after moving from Hunmanby Hall.
Tragedy struck in 1941 when her son, Pilot Officer David Wilson, was killed while flying over France during the Second World War. In his memory, Lady Nunburnholme gifted the Lodge to Scarborough Hospital, which lovingly transformed it into a children’s hospital. For many years, the house stood as a place of care, hope, and comfort to local families.
Our location offers the best of both worlds — peaceful countryside surroundings with easy access to some of Yorkshire’s most loved destinations. The seaside towns of Scarborough, Whitby, and Filey are just a short drive away, while Dalby Forest and the North York Moors National Park offer breathtaking walks, cycle routes, and outdoor adventures. The charming market town of Pickering is also nearby, filled with independent shops and local charm.
At East Ayton Lodge, we’re passionate about creating memorable experiences. Our friendly team take pride in offering a warm Yorkshire welcome, ensuring every guest feels at home from the moment they arrive. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for another stay, you’ll always be greeted with a smile and genuine care.
