Old Picture of East Ayton Lodge

- A MANOR STEEPED IN HISTORY -

East Ayton Lodge began life in the early 1800s as a grand country manor house, nestled in the peaceful village of East Ayton, North Yorkshire. In 1928, Lady Marjorie Nunburnholme — granddaughter of the first Duke of Wellington — made the Lodge her family home after moving from Hunmanby Hall.

Tragedy struck in 1941 when her son, Pilot Officer David Wilson, was killed while flying over France during the Second World War. In his memory, Lady Nunburnholme gifted the Lodge to Scarborough Hospital, which lovingly transformed it into a children’s hospital. For many years, the house stood as a place of care, hope, and comfort to local families.

- A NEW CHAPTER -

In later years, the Lodge was restored and reborn as a country hotel, carefully preserving its historic charm while welcoming guests from near and far. Today, East Ayton Lodge combines its rich heritage with modern comforts, creating a space where history and hospitality come together.

Set in beautifully landscaped gardens surrounded by mature trees, the Lodge offers a tranquil escape from the bustle of everyday life. Our 28 en-suite rooms are individually styled for comfort and relaxation, with a warm, homely atmosphere that reflects the building’s character.

- A PLACE TO RELAX & UNWIND -

At the heart of the hotel is our cosy, dog-friendly lounge — complete with a real log fire — and our charming bar and restaurant. The bright conservatory overlooks our south-facing gardens, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a freshly prepared meal, afternoon tea, or a quiet drink while taking in the view.

Guests are welcome to stroll through the grounds, admire the scenery, and spot local wildlife. It’s a true countryside escape, where you can slow down and savour every moment.
